Early — and impressive — results . . .

Ok, are you ready for this?
Our early results are in and we're excited to share them with everyone who's helped us out throughout this entire effort.
  • For starters, we sold close to 325 books the night of the event.
  • The iPod raffle brought in nearly $800.
  • And all together, with the raffle, the book sales, and the silent auction, we've so far raised . . . nearly $17,000!
That's absolutely an incredible number and we extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who's contributed in one way or another. And we're still selling books and collecting money from the silent auction, so we're not done yet.

THANK YOU!

What a fantastic night we had last night. Hundreds of people turned out to support Kevin Rauch and his family, to get their hands on the limited edition OZONE guidebook, to bid on more than 100 silent auction items, to swill beers (and wait in a huge line for them — sorry about that!), to see old faces and meet new ones, and otherwise just partake of a grand evening out.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the event and to all who helped out. We could not have done it without all the support we received from so many different people. After all, we're just a handful of climbers and friends who had a little idea many, many months ago...

As far as results, we're not giving out any numbers yet, but we will shortly. For now, just know that we are extremely happy — and fairly flabbergasted, to be quite honest — with what we seem to have initially gathered. The iPod raffle alone garnered nearly $800!

So thank you all once again. It's been a rousing success.

And it will continue to be a success. We're still selling books, so contact us if you want one!

And if you won something in the silent auction but didn't get to pick it up, Bryan Smith will be calling you and giving you TWO DAYS to respond before moving on to the next highest bidder. Need more information? Contact Bryan.

Thanks also to Melissa McComb and Amy Stewart for taking and letting us post these photos.

Tonight's the Night

It's been almost a year since Jon Stewart first dropped the idea of this guidebook/fund-raiser into my head. And who knows how long he and Kevin Evansen and some of the other guys involved had been thinking about it prior to that.

But the point is, this has been a long time coming and now it's here. It's exciting to see that it's all come together: guidebook, silent auction, fund-raiser, everything.

So thanks to everyone in advance for helping us make this happen. We will see you all tonight.

In the O

Real quick: The Oregonian gave us a nice little write-up and photo on their web site Tuesday evening. Check it out!

We've got BEER . . . and Directions!

OK, we're getting close now. Just two more days until the Ozone Guidebook Release and Fund-Faiser for Kevin Rauch. The list of silent auction items continues to grow — we recently added a home/renovation/design consultation from a designer at Anrkom Moisan Architects, veterinary services from NW Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital, and BEER! from Roots and McMenamins.

There's buzz brewing as well over the 80G iPod that's up for raffle, and the Lucky Lab is bracing itself for the throngs who will be turning out Wednesday night at 6:30.

A reminder, as we've had some lingering confusion on this: The event is at the Lucky Labrador Beer Hall in Northwest Portland (1945 NW Quimby Street); not the southeast location or the Multnomah Village one. Just so you know and don't show up at the wrong place... CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS!

Press . . .

Thanks to The Columbian for helping us spread the word. Not only was there a short item and photo up on the web yesterday, but it's on the front page of the living section today.  And the Lake Oswego Review also had an item in Thursday's paper. Appreciate the help.

Donation Information

We've had several inquiries as to how much we're selling OZONE for and how you can pay for it.

We're asking for a minimum donation of $25 per book — a pretty sweet deal considering that you're getting a prime guidebook full of more than 75 route descriptions, history and development information, and tons of full-color photos. Plus, proceeds are going to a great cause.

We'll be accepting cash and checks for books at the event. (Checks may be made out to "Thomas Rauch FBO Kevin Rauch") Have more questions? Let us know!

And don't forget, we'll be raffling an 80G iPod — tickets just $1 each or six for $5 — and auctioning off more than 100 items and services in our silent auction at the Lucky Lab in Northwest Portland on Wednesday, Oct. 1! (The auction is cash or check only too please.)

See you all in a week!

Ozone — The Book!

Here's the first look at Ozone, the guidebook and fund-raiser we've been pushing for the past couple months. We think it's pretty sweet. This cover shot is of Amy Stewart climbing Burrito Killa. (Photo by Mark Deffenbaugh, layout and design by Jerrel McQuen of DHX Advertising.)

At present, the book is undergoing some final edits and prep work before it hits the printer later this week. It's running just about 60 pages, which includes tons of full-color photographs, topo maps provided by Tim Olson, history and development information, and route descriptions for more than 75 routes at Ozone.

It's taken a lot of hard work from a crew of volunteers to put this beauty together, but it'll all be worth it come Oct. 1. Not only will a top-notch guide hit the streets that day, but we — that means everyone! — will also be able to take a lot of pride in knowing that substantial proceeds from the sale of Ozone will go directly to benefit our friend Kevin Rauch and his family. (We'll be selling the guidebooks for a minimum donation of $25.)

Please, spread the word, pass on the link to this site, and turn out for the event Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Lucky Lab Beer Hall in Northwest Portland. (And if you or anyone you know would like to donate to the silent auction, let us know!)

Rauch on Chaos

Here's a photo of our main man Kevin Rauch climbing at Ozone awhile back on a route called Chaos. Though he's not climbing anymore, Kevin's imprint is all over Ozone and all over this guidebook that we're putting out.

It's looking great, by the way. The folks at DHX Advertising are doing an incredible job designing it and laying it out, and when it's all said and done, we're going to have a stellar guidebook that's not only going to share great information, topo maps, and photos, but that's going to benefit a fantastic cause as well.

Please make sure your calendar's marked for Wednesday, Oct. 1. Friends, strangers, climbers, non-climbers — everyone is invited.

Donations!

Here's just a snapshot of some of the great area businesses who've donated to the silent auction! We'll be posting more soon, including lots of our friends who have contributed everything from handmade soaps and purses to private yoga lessons and a one-of-a-kind piton believed to be a Fred Beckey original! Thanks to everyone in advance. And, if you or anyone you know may have something to donate for the auction, let us know. Contact Bryan Smith at 541-788-7845 or email him.

The Right Lucky Lab

Just a quick note to make sure that everyone knows which Lucky Lab to show up to on Oct. 1 for the fund-raiser and release bash. There are three fantastic iterations of this Portland favorite, but our event is at the Lucky Labrador Beer Hall at 1945 NW Quimby Street in Northwest Portland.

Just so there's no confusion.

See you all in just over a month. And keep checking back for updates, new photos, and more. Pretty soon we'll be posting some of the sweet stuff that will be in the silent auction. We're already amassing climbing gear, gym passes, yoga lessons, local wines, and on and on. Keep checking in to learn what else will be on the block . . .

Ozone is an 800-foot-long wall of beautiful basalt in the Columbia River Gorge that's been developed into a premier climbing area. One of the most influential developers of the crag, Kevin Rauch, was diagnosed with ALS in 2007. This guidebook, assembled by other Ozone developers and friends of Kevin's, and this event are all about raising funds and pooling support for Kevin and his family. Don't miss it!
